Dr. Monique Mitchell Turner
My Story
Putting myself out there in such a public manner is not always easy, but I’ve found that the more I do the easier it is. I enjoy having such a great opportunity to share the things I love, the places I discover and some of my most personal moments with a growing loyal community.
I consider this platform an ongoing creation with so much potential to grow and evolve, and I would love to hear your feedback and thoughts. If you want to discuss my work or possible collaborations, hear more about my journey or simply say hi - please get in touch today.
Who Am I?
I’m a lot of thing: wife, mom, sister & daughter, friend, mentor & scholar and sometimes other things too. I grew up in Northern Lower Michigan (read: not the U.P.) on the Mitchell Centennial Farm in Kingsley. Growing up in a rural area surrounded by barns, farms and trees shaped the person I am today.
Professionally, I am the Chairperson of the Department of Communication at Michigan State University (Go Green!). My career has taken me around the country. I've held faculty positions in communication at the University of Oklahoma, Univ. of Texas at Austin, and the Univ. of Maryland. I was also faculty and Associate Dean at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University.
Every project I’ve taken on was guided by my curiosity and desire to understand why and how communication can change an individual's mind and behavior(s). I use this space to showcase my current and past work, to detail upcoming research and lab plans and to connect with other scholars.
